ABOUT THE SUNKEN GARDEN

The Sunken Garden holds a special place as the first garden Bunny ever made. Its stone wall — built by a beloved friend and gifted thirty-five years ago — still bears the mark of an artist’s hand. The garden has evolved considerably since those early days of weekend weeding and perennial borders flanking a central lawn. A trip to Belgium and the discovery of a Russell Page-designed garden proved the turning point, inspiring the six rectilinear beds and flagstone paving that now give the space its character.

LIVING TAPESTRIES

Framed in mature clipped boxwood, two beds are spare and graphic with gravel and boxwood balls, while the remaining four are planted as perennial tapestries — layered by color, texture, and height, and brightened each summer with annuals.
