Description
Weeping white pine (Pinus strobus ‘Pendula’) is a cultivated form of the eastern white pine selected for its irregular, cascading habit. Its branches drape and sprawl in unpredictable ways, making each specimen visually distinct and sculptural. Unlike the upright species, this form is typically staked and trained in youth to establish height before being allowed to trail naturally. It is best used as a focal point in open, well-drained settings where its shape can develop freely without crowding.
Derived from the native Pinus strobus, which ranges widely across eastern North America, ‘Pendula’ retains the species’ tolerance for cold and preference for slightly acidic, sandy soils. It performs best in full sun and benefits from protection against heavy snow loads, which can cause its lax branches to distort.
