Description
This variegated form of Solomon’s seal (Polygonatum odoratum) is a refined, shade-loving perennial prized for its arching stems, creamy white bell-shaped flowers, and elegant green leaves edged with white. Native to East Asia, Polygonatum odoratum var. pluriflorum naturally occurs in forest understories and wooded slopes, where it thrives in moist, well-drained soils rich in organic matter. In gardens, the ‘Variegatum’ cultivar is favored for its luminous foliage, making it especially effective in shaded borders, under deciduous trees, or as a companion to ferns and hostas.
Though visually subtle, it offers valuable structural rhythm and foliage contrast throughout the growing season. Over time, it forms graceful clumps via slowly spreading rhizomes, contributing to long-lived, low-maintenance plantings.
