Description
The redbud is covered with small pea like purple flowers that seem to burst from the stems and branches lighting the forest understory in early Spring with a purple glow. The seeds ripen in August in pea like pods that are used by an assortment of wildlife including turkeys, quail, cardinals, grosbeaks, deer, squirrels and others. It is pollinated by long tongued bees like carpenter and blueberry bees.
