Description
‘Purple Emperor’ is a compact cultivar of upright stonecrop prized for its dramatic contrast—deep purple stems and dusky foliage topped with clusters of rose-pink flowers in late summer. It holds its form well into fall and attracts a range of pollinators, including bees and butterflies. This cultivar’s color and structure make it especially effective in borders, rock gardens, and drought-tolerant plantings where vibrant foliage takes center stage.
Like others in the Hylotelephium group, it thrives in poor, well-drained soil and full sun, making it ideal for xeriscaping. It is clump-forming, non-invasive, and drought-tolerant. Though deciduous, its dried seed heads add winter interest if left standing.
