Nepenthaceae
Description
Nepenthes ‘Miranda’) is a popular hybrid known for its striking, speckled pitchers with flared peristomes and impressive size. These specialized leaves function as passive traps, luring insects with nectar before capturing and digesting them—a survival strategy in nutrient-poor soils. Although foliage is the star attraction, small, dangling flowers may appear in late spring to summer; they are rarely seen in cultivation.
‘Miranda’ thrives in warm, humid environments with bright, indirect light and consistently moist, acidic soil. As a hybrid of N. maxima and N. northiana, it is adaptable and vigorous, making it a favorite among carnivorous plant growers. Best grown in hanging baskets or tall pots to show off its downward-growing pitchers, it adds both exotic flair and biological intrigue to any collection.
