Description
Disocactus × hybridus) is a tropical epiphytic cactus valued for its stunning, oversized flowers and trailing, flattened stems. This widely grown hybrid (formerly often labeled Epiphyllum) produces showy pink blooms in late spring or early summer, often measuring over 6 inches across. Unlike desert cacti, it thrives in bright indirect light and appreciates higher humidity and rich, well-draining organic soil, similar to that used for orchids or ferns.
Although not a naturally occurring species, Disocactus × hybridus is derived from several epiphytic species native to Central and South America. It performs well in hanging baskets or elevated containers where its arching stems can cascade freely. Indoors, it benefits from a brief cool, dry rest in winter to encourage flowering the following season.
