Description

Panicled hydrangea (Hydrangea paniculata) is a widely cultivated deciduous shrub known for its upright, conical flower clusters that bloom on new wood from mid to late summer. Its creamy white flowers gradually blush pink or lime green as they age, depending on the cultivar, extending ornamental interest well into fall. Unlike many hydrangeas, it tolerates full sun and a wider range of soil conditions, making it a reliable performer in both formal and naturalistic landscapes.

Native to eastern Asia, H. paniculata is hardy, adaptable, and especially valued in colder regions where bigleaf hydrangeas may fail to bloom. Numerous cultivars—such as ‘Limelight’, ‘Little Lime’, and ‘Vanilla Strawberry’—offer a range of sizes and color transitions. It is best pruned in late winter to encourage vigorous flowering.
