Scrophulariaceae

Description

‘Lochinch’ (Buddleja ×) is a compact butterfly bush cultivar prized for its long, tapering spikes of lavender-blue flowers with contrasting orange throats. Blooming continuously from midsummer into fall, it is a magnet for butterflies, bees, and hummingbirds. It is especially valued for its silvery-gray foliage, which adds visual brightness and drought tolerance to sunny borders. Smaller and more restrained than many other Buddleja cultivars, it maintains a tidy, rounded habit with light pruning.

The Buddleja genus is native to parts of Asia, Africa, and the Americas. ‘Lochinch’ originated in Scotland in the mid-20th century and is thought to be a hybrid involving Buddleja davidii and B. fallowiana. Like other butterfly bushes, it prefers full sun and well-drained soil, and benefits from being cut back in spring to encourage new flowering.
