Family

Asparagaceae

Description

‘Elegans’ is a classic large-leaved hosta grown for its bold texture and ability to brighten shaded spaces with broad, blue-green foliage. The thick, corrugated leaves are more slug-resistant than those of thinner cultivars, and their glaucous coating maintains a cool-toned presence throughout the season. In early summer, pale lavender to white flowers rise above the mound on tall scapes, attracting bees and hummingbirds.

A long-established cultivar of Hosta sieboldiana, ‘Elegans’ prefers rich, moisture-retentive soil in part to full shade. It forms an impressive, slow-spreading clump over time and is especially effective when used to contrast with finer-textured woodland plants, such as ferns or Carex.
