Family

Description

Himalayan rose (Rosa brunonii) is a vigorous, once-blooming climber grown for its cascading habit, fragrant spring flowers, and decorative hips. Unlike many modern roses, it is not bred for repeated bloom but for presence, arching over walls or climbing into small trees where it can be left largely unmanaged. The white to pale pink flowers appear in early summer, often all at once, and the thorny stems deter browsing.

Native to the foothills of the Himalayas, Rosa brunonii is well-suited to open, sunny sites with ample room to sprawl. It prefers moderately fertile, well-drained soil and benefits from structural support in cultivation. In garden settings, it can serve as a naturalistic foil to more manicured plantings, especially when allowed to soften hard edges or cascade over stone.
