Description
‘Hetz Midget’ (Thuja occidentalis) is a dwarf selection of eastern arborvitae prized for its compact, naturally rounded form and very slow growth. Maturing at just 2 to 3 feet tall and wide, it requires no pruning to maintain its shape, making it ideal for foundation plantings, rock gardens, and other tight spaces where a small-scale evergreen structure is needed. Its fine-textured foliage holds a soft green color through the growing season, often taking on bronze tones in winter.
A cultivar of Thuja occidentalis, native to northeastern North America, ‘Hetz Midget’ prefers full sun and evenly moist, well-drained soils but tolerates a range of conditions once established. It is especially useful in formal or low-maintenance designs where space is limited but a year-round structure is still desired.
