Description
Giant fleeceflower (Persicaria polymorpha) is a bold, herbaceous perennial grown for its imposing scale and structural clarity. Though closely related to knotweeds, it is well-behaved in cultivation, forming large, shrub-like clumps without running. Its height and breadth—often exceeding five feet in both directions—make it effective as a seasonal screen, backdrop, or anchor in large-scale perennial plantings. Spent inflorescences age gracefully and provide late-season texture, especially when left standing into fall.
Native to eastern Asia, P. polymorpha thrives in full sun to partial shade and is adaptable to a wide range of soils, provided it receives adequate drainage. It is drought-tolerant once established and requires little staking or maintenance, despite its stature.
