Description
Garden phlox is a classic perennial of summer borders, valued for its large, fragrant flower clusters and upright habit. Native to the eastern United States, it thrives in sunny, well-drained sites with consistent moisture. Cultivars offer a wide range of colors—from pure white to deep magenta—and often serve as key nectar sources for butterflies, hummingbirds, and other pollinators during the height of summer.
In its native habitat, Phlox paniculata is typically found in moist meadows and open woodlands, and in gardens it benefits from good air circulation to reduce powdery mildew, a common foliar disease. Its long bloom period and ability to naturalize make it a dependable choice for cottage gardens, wildlife plantings, and cut-flower production.
