Description
‘DeGroot’s Spire’ is a distinctive arborvitae cultivar selected for its extremely narrow, twisted columnar form, often not exceeding 2–3 feet wide at maturity while reaching heights of 15–20 feet. Its strong vertical habit and sculptural texture make it ideal for architectural accents, tight spaces, and formal plantings. The foliage twists slightly along the branches, lending an elegant, dynamic appearance even in winter.
This cultivar is derived from Thuja occidentalis, which grows naturally in limestone-based, moist forests and wetlands throughout the Great Lakes and northeastern U.S. ‘DeGroot’s Spire’ performs well in evenly moist, well-drained soils and can tolerate pruning but maintains its slender form naturally with age.
