Family

Paeoniaceae

Description

‘Snow Lotus’ is a refined cultivar of Paeonia rockii, prized for its luminous white petals stained with deep purple flares at the flower’s base. This tree peony blooms in mid-spring and is valued for its large, fragrant flowers and vigorous, upright growth habit. Its woody stems allow it to persist year after year without dying back in winter, unlike herbaceous peonies. In garden settings, it thrives in full sun to part shade with well-drained, fertile soil and minimal disturbance once established.

Native to high-elevation limestone slopes of north-central China, Paeonia rockii is particularly valued for its cold tolerance and strong, drought-resistant root system. This cultivar retains much of the species’ ruggedness while contributing ornamental drama to temperate gardens.
