Description
Chinese juniper is a versatile evergreen conifer widely used in horticulture for hedging, foundation plantings, bonsai, and specimen forms. With many cultivars varying in shape, size, and foliage color, it’s especially prized for its dense habit, drought tolerance, and adaptability to pruning. It prefers full sun and well-drained soils and is valued for year-round structure and visual interest in both formal and naturalistic designs.
Native to China, Mongolia, Japan, and parts of the Himalayas, Juniperus chinensis thrives in rocky slopes and open woodlands. Many garden cultivars are hybrids with J. sabina, thereby expanding their ornamental range and increasing their resistance to pests and diseases.
