Description

A shade loving fine textured evergreen that has drooping branches and an attractive pyramidal growth form. It is a popular ornamental for shady locations as it is one of the few evergreen trees that can tolerate a great deal of shade. However the health and thereby the foliage can be much reduced by the hemlock wooly adelgid especially for trees stressed by drought.

Range / Habitat

From southern Canada to northern Alabama along the Appalachian Mountains. including the Great Lakes, New England and Canadien maritime provinces. It is of ten found on cool northern slopes, ravines, and rocky ridges with a high level of moisture.
