Description
‘Arabella’ is a non-vining, herbaceous clematis cultivar that offers long-lasting blooms of dusky violet-blue, fading to soft lavender as they age. Unlike most clematis, this cultivar doesn’t twine or climb up on its own—it grows as a sprawling subshrub or can be loosely tied to its supports. Its compact habit makes it ideal for containers, perennial borders, or weaving through low shrubs. ‘Arabella’ is known for its exceptionally long bloom period, producing flowers continuously on new growth throughout the summer into fall with minimal care. It prefers full sun to part shade and thieves in well-drained, fertile soil with consistent moisture.
This hybrid clematis is a modern garden cultivar, bred in the UK and not naturally occurring in the wild. It inherits cold hardiness and extended bloom from Clematis integrifolia, one of its parent species native to the steppe and woodland edges of Central and Eastern Europe.
