Description
‘Pagoda’ is a popular hybrid fawn lily admired for its elegant, reflexed yellow flowers held in nodding clusters above mottled green leaves. A cross between Erythronium tuolumnense and E.californicum, it combines strong growth with reliable flowering, making it ideal for naturalistic woodland gardens and spring bulb borders. It thrives in moist, humus-rich soil with dappled light and benefits from cool root conditions in spring, going dormant by midsummer.
Though a garden hybrid, its parent species are native to western North America, particularly in California’s Sierra Nevada foothills, where they grow in forest openings and meadows. ‘Pagoda’ retains the spring ephemerality of its wild relatives and spreads gently by offsets in optimal conditions.
