Description
‘Éclat d’or’ is a cultivar of bearded iris prized for its bold golden-yellow blooms with ruffled edges and strong upright stems. Like other German or bearded irises, it thrives in full sun with excellent drainage and benefits from division every few years to maintain vigor. The fleshy rhizomes should be planted just at or below the soil surface to prevent rot. Deadheading spent flowers can also prolong the display. Its striking color and stately form make it a standout in early summer borders or as a cut flower.
A hybrid of European origin, Iris germanica is not native to any one region but has naturalized in parts of North America. It is a sterile complex hybrid, developed from multiple wild species native to the Mediterranean. Cultivars such as ‘Éclat d’or’ embody centuries of horticultural breeding, blending aesthetic appeal with reliable garden performance.
