Description

‘Wolf Eyes’ is a striking variegated cultivar of the Kousa dogwood, admired for its compact form and creamy white-margined leaves that create a luminous effect throughout the growing season. Its layered, horizontal branching highlights a slow-growing, vase-shaped habit that becomes increasingly architectural with age. In late spring, pointed white bracts surround the true flowers, followed by strawberry-like red fruits in fall. The foliage often develops pinkish tones as cooler weather approaches.

Native to woodlands and hillsides of East Asia—including Korea, China, and Japan—Cornus kousa prefers moist, well-drained soil and benefits from afternoon shade in hotter climates. ‘Wolf Eyes’ is slightly more compact and less vigorous than the straight species, making it well-suited to smaller gardens and ornamental borders.
