Description
‘Murad of Hershey Bar’ is a cultivated tree peony selection, named for its richly colored, chocolate-toned petals that open in late spring. Like all tree peonies, it forms a woody subshrub rather than dying back to the ground each year. The large, often semi-double blooms are intensely fragrant and long-lasting, held above deeply lobed foliage on sturdy stems that do not require staking. Though slow to establish, once mature, it can thrive for decades with minimal care, offering an annual spectacle of exotic elegance.
Tree peonies (Paeonia suffruticosa) are native to China and have been cultivated for over a thousand years, often regarded as symbols of prosperity and honor. In garden settings, they prefer well-drained, neutral to slightly alkaline soils and benefit from morning sun with afternoon shade to prevent the delicate blooms from fading.
