Description
This finely dissected cultivar of the native staghorn sumac offers a dramatic, fern-like texture atop bold, open-branching stems. ‘Laciniata’ produces upright cones of yellow-green flowers in early summer, followed by dense clusters of crimson fruit on female plants that persist into winter, supporting birds and other wildlife. Its foliage turns vibrant shades of scarlet and orange in autumn, making it a standout even in informal or naturalistic plantings.
Rhus typhina is native to eastern North America and commonly found along roadsides, forest edges, and disturbed sites. Like the species, ‘Laciniata’ is tolerant of drought, poor soils, and urban conditions. It spreads by underground rhizomes, forming colonies that offer excellent erosion control, particularly on slopes.
