Description
‘Florentinum’ is a striking variegated cultivar of golden dead nettle, grown primarily for its silver-marked foliage and low, spreading habit that makes it ideal for shade ground cover. Despite its name, it has not sting—”dead nettle” refers to the soft, harmless leaves. The yellow, hooded flowers bloom in spring and often reappear sporadically through summer. It thrives in part shade to full shade, tolerates dry conditions once established, and can help suppress weeds in woodland settings.
Native to Europe and western Asia, Lamium galeobdolon naturally occurs in deciduous forests and shaded rocky slopes, where it creeps along the ground in dappled light. The cultivar ‘Florentinum’ is particularly vigorous, sometimes bordering on invasive in mild climates—so it’s best used with care in managed beds.
