Description

Doublefile viburnum is a deciduous shrub admired for its striking horizontal branching and flat-topped clusters of white flowers that bloom in parallel “double file” rows along the stems. Following bloom, red berries ripen to black and are eaten by birds. This structural shrub offers year-round interest with layered form, deep green foliage that turns reddish-purple in fall, and a graceful, arching silhouette that complements woodland edges or open borders.

Native to Japan and China, Viburnum plicatum f. tomentosum thrives in well-drained soil and sun to part shade. Though not native to North America, it integrates well into mixed plantings and provides ecological value as a pollen and nectar source for early-season pollinators.
